I offer a number of therapeutic massage techniques and modalities which are integrated in the session to suit the needs of the client, be it to find relief from muscular tension or pain or to enhance feelings of wellbeing through relaxation and stillness.
Swedish Massage: consists of long flowing strokes, mostly towards the heart, as well as kneading, friction and compression to stimulate circulation, nourishing the tissues with new oxygenated blood while flushing out metabolic waste products. It is a wonderful massage to counteract the effects of stress on the body allowing for deep relaxation of the whole person.
Deep Tissue Massage: deeper and more specific work addressing chronic patterns of pain and tension to increase range of motion and release hypertonic muscles.
Myofascial Release: Involves slow stretching of the fascia or connective tissue that surrounds the muscles to release deep tension and improve mobility.
Muscle Energy Techniques: these engage the client in active movement against resistance to help release and stretch tight muscles and fascia, strengthen weak muscles and mobilize restricted joints.
Orthopedic Massage: Not so much a technique as an approach to the treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction, involving principles of orthopedic assessment and treatment, utilizing some of the techniques described above.
Oncology Massage: Research has shown that massage is effective in boosting the immune system and significantly alleviating some of the symptoms associated with cancer and cancer treatment (see Benefits of Massage). By adapting the massage to the client's needs and challenges and following guidelines to ensure comfort and safety, massage and touch therapy can be a beneficial part of the individual's healing process at all stages of treatment and recovery. (Read more about oncology massage on the website of the Society for Oncology Massage).
In-Patient Medical Massage
I have been providing massage therapy to in-patients at Beebe Medical Center since 2003. Massage has been shown to aid in relaxation and pain management as well as help with sleep difficulties. A physician's order is required for a referral to be made through the Integrative Health Department. For more information contact Cheyenne Luzader at Integrative Health: (302) 645-3767.
In-Home Massage
Enjoy a relaxing therapeutic massage in the comfort of your own home. I provide everything needed to create a peaceful atmosphere conducive to deep relaxation and well-being. The space needs to provide sufficient room for a massage table and chair and enough space to maneuver around the table with ease.
During the summer season I require off-street parking in locations where parking meters are in effect or permits are required.
